La Caleta Beach from Cruise Port
Cadiz's postcard bay — golden sand, castle views and the old town at your back, an easy walk from the ship.
Distance
About 1.2 km / 15–20 min on foot
Travel time
15–20 minutes walking from the terminal
Time needed
Allow 2–4 hours for beach time plus old-town stroll
La Caleta is the city's most photographed beach: a small crescent framed by San Sebastián and Santa Catalina castles, with the cathedral spires rising behind. From the Cadiz cruise terminal it is walkable in about 15–20 minutes through the historic centre — ideal for passengers who want sun, sea and atmosphere without leaving town.
Ships berth at the Alfonso XIII or Ciudad de Cádiz cruise terminals on the port's Atlantic edge. From the gangway, head into the old town and follow signs toward the sea — the route passes narrow lanes, small squares and often a glimpse of the Roman theatre before you reach the promenade above La Caleta.
The beach itself is compact and popular with locals: calm water in the lee of the breakwaters, chiringuito bars in summer, and the Castillo de San Sebastián at the far end (reachable on foot at low tide via a causeway). Allow two to three hours if you want a swim, a drink and a wander along the waterfront.
La Caleta pairs naturally with a short old-town walk — the cathedral, Tavira tower and Mercado Central are all within 10–15 minutes. It is the best low-stress option when your ship is in for a half-day or you prefer not to commit to an inland trip.
